SPN441 FMI4
Auxiliary Temperature Sensor Input 1 Circuit - Voltage Below Normal or Shorted to Low
Source
CODES:
Fault Code: 294
PID(P), SID(S): P441
SPN: 441
FMI: 4/4
Lamp: Amber
SRT:
REASON: Low signal voltage detected at the OEM temperature sensor circuit.
EFFECT: None on performance.
Circuit Description:
The sensor signal is used by the Engine Control Module (ECM) to monitor the OEM temperature for the engine protection system.
Component Location:
The OEM temperature sensor input and location will vary. Refer to the OEM service manual for sensor location.
Conditions for Running the Diagnostics:
This diagnostic runs continuously when the keyswitch is in the ON position.
Conditions for Setting the Fault Codes:
The Engine Control Module (ECM) detected the OEM temperature signal circuit is out of range low.
Action Taken When the Fault Code is Active:
• The ECM illuminates the amber CHECK ENGINE lamp immediately when the diagnostic runs and fails.
Conditions for Clearing the Fault Code:
• To validate the repair, start the engine and let it idle for 1 minute.
• The fault code status displayed by the recommended Cummins® electronic service tool or equivalent will change to INACTIVE immediately after the diagnostic runs and passes.
• The ECM will turn off the amber CHECK ENGINE lamp immediately after the diagnostic runs and passes.
• The “Reset All Faults” command in the recommended Cummins® electronic service tool or equivalent can be used to clear active and inactive faults.
Shop Talk:
Possible causes of this fault code include:
• Signal shorted to ground in the harness
-Signal shorted to return or ground in the sensor
