Accelerator Pedal or Lever Position Sensor 1 - Data Valid But Above Normal Operating Range - Most Severe Level

PID(P), SID(S): P91

Lamp: Red
REASON: A frequency of less than 100 HZ has been detected at the frequency throttle input to the
ECM.
EFFECT: The engine will operate in Limp Home mode.
Circuit Description:
The frequency throttle provides the driver's throttle command to the Engine Control Module (ECM) through the OEM engine harness and the actuator harness. The Engine Control Module (ECM) uses this signal to determine the fueling command.
Component Location:
Throttle location varies with each OEM. Refer to the OEM service manual.
Conditions for Running the Diagnostics:
This diagnostic runs continuously when the keyswitch is in the ON position or when the engine is running.
Conditions for Setting the Fault Codes:
The Engine Control Module (ECM) detected the throttle frequency was higher than a calibrated value.
Action Taken When the Fault Code is Active:
• The ECM illuminates the red STOP ENGINE lamp immediately after the diagnostic runs and fails.
Conditions for Clearing the Fault Code:
• To validate the repair, start the engine and let it idle for 1 minute.
• The fault code status displayed by the recommended Cummins® electronic service tool or equivalent will change to INACTIVE immediately after the diagnostic runs and passes.
• The ECM will turn off the red STOP ENGINE lamp immediately after the diagnostic runs and passes.
• It is necessary to use the "Reset All Faults" command in the recommended Cummins® electronic service tool or equivalent to clear this fault.
Shop Talk:
The frequency throttle can be used in conjunction with a voltage throttle or by itself.
