FREE Cummins INSITE Software: Cold Idle Warm-Up on CUMMINS Engines
Cold Idle Warm-Up
Figure 1.1 - Cold Idle Warm-Up |
The Cold Idle Warm-Up feature increases the idle speed to shorten the
time to warm-up the engine in cold climate conditions. After the engine is started, if
the coolant temperature is below the Active Coolant Temperature, the idle speed is
increased to a higher idle or Reference Speed. The engine stays at this
Reference Speed for a maximum Time Limit. If the coolant
temperature reaches the Inactive Coolant Temperature during this time,
the engine idle speed will return to low idle speed.

#Features and Parameters
Figure 1.3 - Cold Idle Warm-Up Extended |
1). Cold Idle Warm-Up
When enabled, this feature will shorten the time
to warm-up the engine by increasing the low idle speed.
2). Active Coolant Temperature
This parameter allows the user to set the coolant
temperature (deg F) that will activate the cold idle warm-up.
3). Inactive Coolant Temperature
This parameter allows the user to set the coolant
temperature (deg F) where cold idle warm-up will go inactive and the engine speed will
return to low idle.
4). Reference Speed
This parameter allows the user to set the engine
speed (RPM) that will be reached when cold idle warm-up is activated.
5). Time Limit
This parameter allows the user to set the maximum
time (MM:SS) that the engine will stay at Reference Speed when cold idle warm-up
is active.
6). Cold Idle Warm-Up Extended
When enabled, this feature allows additional
settings to be set to extend or increase the range that will activate cold idle
warm-up.
7). Extended Active Coolant Temperature
This parameter sets the value of the coolant
temperature (deg F) threshold below which cold idle warm-up is active.
8). Extended Inactive Coolant Temperature
This parameter sets the value of the coolant
temperature (deg F) threshold above which cold idle warm-up is inactive.
9). Extended Reference Speed
This parameter is used to set the value of the
idle engine speed (RPM) as a result of cold idle warm-up becoming active.
#Interaction with other Features and Parameters:
This feature will activate after the Engine
Warm-Up Protection Status goes to Inactive.
