SPN 103 - FMI 8 (Fault Codes: Turbo Speed Sensor - Input Failure/ Code 64)
Engine Check - Code 64 (12V2000 Detroit Engine)

#Description of Flash Code 64
Flash Code 64 is used to identify a Turbo Speed fault.
→The SAE J1587 equivalent code for Flash Code 64 is P 103/0 (Turbo Overspeed), and P 103/8 (Turbo Speed Sensor Input Failure).
→Could be a faulty Turbo Speed Sensor (if installed), or due to a wastegate line off/bypassed (if equipped), or there is a boost leak somewhere.
1). Starts the Engine, and check DDDL for codes. Read More: How to Connecting the Detroit Engines using Detroit Diesel Diagnostic Link (DDDL).
→Diagnostics - Fault Codes.

2). Check Boost Pressure.
→Diagnostics - Normal/Diagnostic Instrumentation.
→Abnormal reading on Boost Pressure (31.9 Psi). Check if there is a boost leaking, or a faulty sensor.
→Turbo RPM (0 krpm), not installed.
#Turbo Boost Sensor
→This device is a pressure sensor that sends an electrical signal to the ECM. The ECM uses this
information to compute the amount of air entering the Engine. Fuel supply is regulated by the
Turbo Boost Sensor (TBS) information to control Engine smoke.
3). Replace the Sensor.
→Turbo Boost Sensor used in the Series 2000 (as Figure 1.4 below), with P/N 23524605.

4). Monitoring on EDM display.
→Boost Pressure should be 0 Psi.
→The Turbo Boost Sensor (TBS) provides data to the ECM for use in Engine fueling (smoke
control).
→If no codes are logged, no further troubleshooting is required.
